Top 5 Movies to Look Forward to this Summer

Top 5 Movies to Look Forward to this Summer

Although I have already posted my Top Five Anticipated Movies of 2015 (http://bit.ly/1F7Lugn), these are the top five movies that are going to be released during the summer of 2015 (June 21-September 23).  Summer has been known as Blockbuster season in Hollywood and there are a few big ones scheduled for this year.

*side note:  Jurassic World comes out on June 12 and just misses the list but you can bet that I’m pumped for it.*

#5:  Minions (July 10)

This looks like an adorable movie as an offshoot of the Despicable Me franchise.  These little guys have become cultural icons and now have a movie of their own.  This “prequel” show how the minions became what they are: minions.  A trip to “Villain Con.” sets them out on an adventure that goes to modern day.  It should be a fun movie to take your little brother or sister to in the middle of the summer.

#4:  Pixels (July 24)

pixels

Trailer:  http://bit.ly/1CqMgmj

I am not a big fan of Adam Sandler at all, but Pixels may be an exception.  After a group of aliens mistake 80s videogames as an act of war, they invade Earth using their own “weapons.”  Pete Dinklage, Sean Bean, and Kevin James join Sandler in the big comedy of the summer.  It is up to the “nerds” to come together and stop the video game monsters.  While it won’t be anywhere near as funny, Pixels is supposed to be this summer’s 22 Jump Street.

#3:  Ant-Man (July 17)

ant man

Trailer: http://bit.ly/1CYrQwx

As the first step of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man will be interesting.  There is the same nervousness going in that was felt with Guardians of the Galaxy but we all know how great that turned out to be.  It will be interesting watching Paul Rudd enter the MCU.  I am also excited for the villain, Yellowjack, that will be played by Corey Stoll.  Stoll was one of my favorite actors from House of Cards and I am pumped to see him perform in something else. There will be a lot of hype going into the movie, but I don’t think it’ll fall flat on its face.

#2:  Southpaw (July 24)

southpaw

Trailer: http://bit.ly/1D7Zmqr

Southpaw will be Jake Gyllenhaal’s first big movie since Nightcrawler last year.  The trailer got me pretty excited. Gyllenhaal is a pretty hot commodity in Hollywood and it looks like Southpaw is going to make that flame burn a little brighter.  We watch this boxer’s life slowly slip away from him as he tries desperately to reconnect with his young daughter.  Maybe the Academy will realize just how big of a mistake they made this year by failing to nominate Gyllenhaal as Best Actor and will fix it by nominating him for the 2016 Oscars (assuming this movie lives up to the hype).

Honorable Mention

Paper Towns (July 24)

Mr. Holmes (July 17)

Terminator Genisys (July 1)

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (July 31)

#1:  Fantastic Four (August 7)

fantastic four

Trailer 2: http://bit.ly/1J1DI8Y

While I was initially nervous, I am now pretty excited for Fantastic Four.  The cast is pretty solid with Myles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Reg Cathey (the last two also being House of Cards stars).  We will get a look at a young Fantastic Four that is first being exposed to their new powers.  We get to see them come together and become the famous team that they are today.  While it will not be a tie in to the MCU, it still looks like it’s going to be another great Marvel movie.
