5 TV shows that would make great movies

Yesterday, I posted about five movies that would be great to continue as TV shows (http://bit.ly/1x8KyoT); today I am doing the exact opposite. These five shows would either have a fantastic movie to end the series or would be better condensed from TV into a movie.

*Superhero TV shows are excluded because that is just not fair

#5:  Broadchurch

broadchurch

This show is like a modern day Twin Peaks. David Tennant (Doctor Who) plays detective Alec Hardy as he spends the first season investigating the death of a young boy in the community.  The audience is strung along with twists thrown at them one way or another.  I think that it could be condensed into a two-hour thriller movie.  We could keep the same cast and watch Detective Hardy slowly discover the true culprit.  I could see a lot of comparisons between a Broadchurch movie and Insomnia.

#4:  Community

community

“Six seasons and a movie” has been Community‘s slogan since the show began.  It looked like they were done after five seasons, but Yahoo swooped in to save the day and renew the show for a sixth season.  That leaves the movie.  The movie would be a pretty unique one.  There is not a huge overarching plot, but if any movie were to succeed in doing it, Community definitely has a shot.

#3:  American Horror Story

ahs

This would be a strong horror movie franchise.  Every season, American Horror Story changes their overall theme (Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, and Hotel).  You could make a movie for the franchise from each season.  Horror movies tend to make multiple sequels but this would be unique because the movies are not related to one another.  While I am not a horror fan at all, I still think American Horror Story would make a great franchise.

#2:  Person of Interest

person of interest

This show has a similar feeling to the movie Minority Report.  After devising a machine that will predict crimes, John Reese (Jim Caviezel-Passion of the Christ) and Harold Finch (Michael Emerson-Lost) work to stop criminals before they commit their act.  I think a movie would be the perfect way to cap off the series.  Reese will have to stop the perfect villain while Finch continues to assist from the background.  It definitely has great potential and I would love to see it end with a movie.

#1:  24

24

Each season of this show comprises a 24-hour period.  I am sure you could whittle it down into a full-length movie.  We could go to the theater and watch Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland-Twin Peaks) hunt down a terrorist cell or corrupt business network in a short period of time.  It would be a great action movie that keeps us on the edge of our seats from the opening sequence to the end credits.

5 Movies that would make great TV shows

I don’t know about you, but there have been times that I walk out of a movie theater thinking that the movie I just saw would be an amazing TV show.  We have seen this with movies like Fargo, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, M*A*S*H* and Friday Night Lights all become successful television shows.  Here is a list of five movies that I think would make great TV shows:

#5:  Watchmen

watchmen

While I may not be the biggest fan of Zack Snyder’s comic book adaptation, I think it would be cool to see the world of Watchmen fleshed out a little bit with a TV series.  We would watch humanity try to recover while superheroes are no longer accepted by society.

#4:  The Usual Suspects

the usual suspects

You could essentially take this movie and turn it into a House of Cards type TV series where we follow a criminal instead of a politician (unless of course they are the same thing :p).  We could all use a little more Kevin Spacey narrating his schemes to the audience while showing a facade to those around him.

#3:  Inception

inception

This would be a great crime show.  We could bring back the original cast from the movie and watch them travel multiple criminal’s minds as they try to prevent or solve crimes.  You could even bring in guest stars to be business heads, criminals, or politicians that Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt interrogate.  It just sounds like an awesome show idea.

#2:  Spider-Man

amazing spiderman

Yep, you heard me.  It has been a long time since the web-slinger has had a really successful movie.  I know every superhero has a plethora of villains to go with, but I feel like Spider-Man has the most potential as a TV show.  There are a ton of great villains to pull from and can even have the Sinister Six meet up on occasion and try to defeat Spider-Man

#1:  The Matrix

There is so much potential here.  Although the story line kind of ended with the third movie, I feel like it would have been even better to turn it into a TV series.  Imagine going on Netflix and streaming the latest season of The Matrix.  If you could get the original cast back, there is so much you could with the Matrix universe and I would have loved to see a TV series about it.
