Yesterday, I posted about five movies that would be great to continue as TV shows (http://bit.ly/1x8KyoT); today I am doing the exact opposite. These five shows would either have a fantastic movie to end the series or would be better condensed from TV into a movie.
*Superhero TV shows are excluded because that is just not fair
#5: Broadchurch
This show is like a modern day Twin Peaks. David Tennant (Doctor Who) plays detective Alec Hardy as he spends the first season investigating the death of a young boy in the community. The audience is strung along with twists thrown at them one way or another. I think that it could be condensed into a two-hour thriller movie. We could keep the same cast and watch Detective Hardy slowly discover the true culprit. I could see a lot of comparisons between a Broadchurch movie and Insomnia.
#4: Community
“Six seasons and a movie” has been Community‘s slogan since the show began. It looked like they were done after five seasons, but Yahoo swooped in to save the day and renew the show for a sixth season. That leaves the movie. The movie would be a pretty unique one. There is not a huge overarching plot, but if any movie were to succeed in doing it, Community definitely has a shot.
#3: American Horror Story
This would be a strong horror movie franchise. Every season, American Horror Story changes their overall theme (Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, and Hotel). You could make a movie for the franchise from each season. Horror movies tend to make multiple sequels but this would be unique because the movies are not related to one another. While I am not a horror fan at all, I still think American Horror Story would make a great franchise.
#2: Person of Interest
This show has a similar feeling to the movie Minority Report. After devising a machine that will predict crimes, John Reese (Jim Caviezel-Passion of the Christ) and Harold Finch (Michael Emerson-Lost) work to stop criminals before they commit their act. I think a movie would be the perfect way to cap off the series. Reese will have to stop the perfect villain while Finch continues to assist from the background. It definitely has great potential and I would love to see it end with a movie.
#1: 24
Each season of this show comprises a 24-hour period. I am sure you could whittle it down into a full-length movie. We could go to the theater and watch Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland-Twin Peaks) hunt down a terrorist cell or corrupt business network in a short period of time. It would be a great action movie that keeps us on the edge of our seats from the opening sequence to the end credits.
