We have been blessed by some great visionaries over the last couple of years. Christopher Nolan (InceptionThe Dark Knight Trilogy, and Memento) won last year for taking a unique point of view at how to film a war movie.  Damien Chazelle (La La LandWhiplash, and First Man) and Alejandro Inarritu (The RevenantBirdman, and Babel) both put together massive projects against all odds to win in 2017 and 2016 respectively, and Richard Linklater (BoyhoodDazed and Confused, and School of Rock) dedicated 12 years of his life to win the 2015 Natie.

Here are the nominees for Best Director:

Damien Chazelle (First Man)

Drew Goddard (Bad Times at the El Royale)

Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite)
